Interesting NY Times article on New Realism in American cinema
NY Times (A.O. Scott) published an article “Neo Neo Realism” concerning the new type of realism as portrayed in independent cinema by directors such as Kelly Reichardt, Lance Hammer and Rahman Bahrani.
The neo-realism movement in Italian cinema was sparked by the aftermath of World War II and widespread poverty. Given our current economic climate, Scott suggests a new movement in American cinema is taking shape.
As I’m a major fan of the Italian neo-realists (Antonioni, Visconti, DeSica), it’s a very interesting read.
