Eric Rohmer, a Leading Filmmaker of the French New Wave, Dies at 89

Eric RohmerEric Rohmer, the French critic and filmmaker who was one of the founding figures of the French New Wave and the director of more than 50 films, including the Oscar-nominated “My Night at Maud’s,” died on Monday in Paris. He was 89.

Rohmer was also the long time editor of La Cahiers du Cinema.  I now think only Jean-Luc Godard remains?

It’s hard to find on DVD,  but Rohmer’s 1972 film, Chloe In The Afternoon, is my favorite film  by him – so smart and full of the New Wave energy.  Don’t miss seeing it sometime.  One-of-a-kind.
