“The script should circulate among Hollywood studios looking to break that awful ‘bromance’ formula. Sorry, Thanks does not need such uninspired bricks of concept to make you care about its subjects. I am enamored of its ending, which avoids any neat conclusions while achieving a stunning finality.” – Eric Kohn, INDIEWIRE
Plot: Although he’s in a relationship with Sara (Ia Hernandez), Max Callahan (Wiley Wiggins) develops an obsession with Kira (Kenya Miles), his recent one-night stand. While he tries to figure whether he has a conscience, Kira seriously questions her personal and professional choices. Andrew Bujalski co-stars as Max’s best friend, Mason, and Dia Sokol directs this romantic drama that explores the heart’s questionable emotions.
“This was the feature film directorial debut from director Dia Sokol (16 & Pregnant) who had produced films for Joe Swanberg and Andrew Bujalski, including “Mutual Appreciation” which is one of my favorite films of all time. I met her on the set of Andrew’s Bujalski’s last feature, “Beeswax,” which was shot here in Austin. I loved the script and came aboard as Executive Producer. The film came out great – we premiered at SXSW in and went to play at many more festivals. Los Angeles Times named it “Best First Feature” of 2009 and it ranked on IndieWire’s annual critics survey. IFC/Sundance Channel picked it up for VOD cable and it’s now available on Sundance, Netflix, Amazon, etc.” – Monte
